How to Come Home Yourself: A New Way to Approach Health & Wellness

Grounding in stillness during YoMassage—coming home to the body through breath, touch, and presence.
Come Home to Yourself.

Most Wellness Systems Work—for a While

I’ve studied plant-based nutrition and all kinds of wellness frameworks like the carnivore diet, seasonal living, functional medicine, and integrative medicine. I’ve learned about the detoxes, sleep routines, the cleanses, all the wellness trends that promise results if you just stick to the plan.

Lately, I’ve been deep into Human Design—like, down the rabbit hole.

And ever since I took that Ayurveda workshop, I’ve been obsessed with learning more. A bunch of my friends are into astrology too, so it’s always around me, and a lot of it clicks. I totally get the draw. There’s something comforting about finding a system that seems to get you.

But here’s the thing I keep coming back to—especially after getting really sick with COVID, navigating motherhood, changing careers, going through all kinds of personal shifts…

None of these systems actually know me. Not like I do.

And that’s what this post is about.

I’m not here to bash any wellness system or tool. Many of them have helped me at different points. Sometimes you need a framework to feel like you’re not floating out in space.

You need something to grab onto. I’ve been there. But eventually, I started noticing these little nudges—like, okay, this part doesn’t feel true anymore or I think I’m starting to rely on this too much. And that’s when I realized…

Coming home to yourself is the actual wellness journey.

It’s not about finding the one system that “works.” It’s about noticing what’s working for you, right now. It’s learning to trust your gut. Your sensations. The subtle yes/no feelings that live in your body. It’s about letting yourself pull from what resonates and leaving the rest.

And this isn’t just about wellness stuff. It shows up in everything—religion, politics, the way we live our lives.

For example, I believe in God. I believe in something bigger than all of us. But I’ve never felt like I needed religion to access that. That’s just my truth. If you’re someone who finds deep connection through Christianity or Catholicism or any path—that’s beautiful. That’s you coming home to yourself. That’s your inner knowing saying, this works for me right now. And that’s the whole point.

Same with politics. I’ve said I’m a Republican before, but honestly that label doesn’t fully sit right either. Neither does calling myself a democrat. I see valid points on both sides. I’m somewhere in the middle. That space in-between is messy (SOS, lol), but it’s my truth and it’s real for me.

So back to my point, this isn’t about picking a side or finding the perfect label.Wellness (our health AND living) is about slowing down enough to hear your own inner voice underneath all the noise.

When you start making decisions from that place—from your body, your inner knowing—you don’t feel so pulled in a million directions. You stop chasing every new “solution.” You stop outsourcing your authority.

You land. You root.

You come home.

Learning to Trust Yourself Again (After Years of Outsourcing Your Wellness)

Okay, so let’s talk about this—because it’s a big question, and it can feel overwhelming when you’re in it.

We live in a world that teaches us to look outside ourselves for everything.

And it makes sense. We’re raised to listen to authority figures. We’re told to trust the experts, the professionals, the systems. Whether it’s your doctor, your therapist, your political beliefs, your religion—there’s always been someone or something out there telling us what’s best.

And let me be clear: that’s not a bad thing.

There’s no shame in leaning on those supports. I’ve done it. I still do.

There’s a time and a place for all of it. The problem is when we forget we have wisdom inside us, too.

That’s what coming home is about.

It’s that gut feeling you get when something isn’t clicking anymore. Or when the answers you're getting from outside sources feel off—or flat—or like they're missing something. That little nudge inside is YOU. That’s your intuition waking up, calling out for you to listen.

It’s not always a peaceful, blissed-out moment either. For me, it started out super messy. I’d tune into myself, get a little clarity, and then immediately feel anxious. Like, “Wait, what if I’m wrong? What if I need the system after all?”

And sometimes I’d go right back to it.

And that’s okay. That’s part of the process.

Now, I’ve gotten into a rhythm. I can usually feel into my body and ask,

“What do I actually need today?” (Or this week, this season, etc).

Sometimes my brain is yelling, go go go, and my body’s like, please just lay down. Or sometimes I binge on processed food (I'm an emotional eater ya'll) and my body is like, hi we need real nourishing food, please.

And I have to make space to check in. To ask what’s real for me in that moment. Not what I should do, or what someone else says will fix it, but what’s actually aligned for me right now.

So, how do you start to do that for yourself?

You just begin (easier said than done, I know). But truly, this is where you start.

You pause. You make space for yourself to figure it out. You try something. You listen and reflect. And then you see what happens.

That might look like journaling.

It might look like going to therapy, or having a real convo with a friend.

It might be meditation, or watching a show that makes you laugh until you cry.

It might be movement. Stillness. A YoMassage class. Laying on your kitchen floor. There’s no one right answer.

I don’t have your answer. Only you do.But I do know this—when something resonates, you’ll feel it. And when it doesn’t, you’ll feel it and you ARE allowed to let it go.

Maybe just reading this blog is your first step.

Maybe I’ve planted a seed, and that’s all that needed to happen today. And then maybe a week from now, or months from now, something clicks and you’re like—okay, I think I’m ready to come back to myself.

THAT’S how it starts!

Wellness isn’t one thing. It’s not a formula. It’s not a perfect routine or a trendy system.

You’re allowed to shift. You’re allowed to change. You’re allowed to be cyclical. Messy. Complex. Human.

Especially as women—our energy, our hormones, our emotions, our needs… they all shift constantly. So how could we ever expect one system to hold us forever?

That’s why this practice of tuning in—of asking, what’s true for me today?—is so important. It’s not always easy. It can be messy. But it’s real and we learn so much about ourselves in the process.(P.s. the more you do it, the easier it gets).

If it feels overwhelming right now, that’s okay. We’re wired to want clarity and steps and certainty. But this isn’t about getting it perfect. This is about learning how to hear you. Learning how to come home to yourself.

If you’re already doing that, I’d love to hear what’s helped you—what you’ve tried, what’s felt true. Because the more I share, the more we all learn how to come home to ourselves, in our own way. (Comment below if you're willing to share!).

There’s only YOUR way, & YOUR way is perfect.

If you’ve made it this far, I hope something in here has sparked something in you—even if it’s just a little spark.

Maybe you’re realizing that you’ve been looking outside of yourself for a long time. Maybe that’s been necessary. Maybe it still is. But maybe you’re also starting to feel that quiet nudge to check back in with you.

If so, that’s your starting point. That’s you beginning the process of coming home.

It doesn’t need to be loud or dramatic. It doesn’t need to be perfect. It can start with a pause or  a moment of noticing what feels right for you today.

There’s no right way to do this work. No one path. No gold star at the end. There’s just you—living your life, learning what works, and building that relationship with yourself again.

That, to me, is the most powerful kind of wellness. Not the kind you copy from someone else. The kind you build from within.

So whether your path includes yoga, Yomassage, herbal tea, therapy, church, walks in nature, cold plunges, saunas, meditations, supplements, medication, or something else entirely—

It’s valid. It’s real. It’s yours.And you’re doing it.

You’re already on your way home.

A Gentle Invitation

Before you close this tab, take a minute and ask yourself:

What’s one small way I can come home to myself today?

Not a big shift. Just one moment.Maybe it’s a breath. A journal sesh. A walk outside. Saying no to something. Saying yes to something. Being still for five seconds longer than usual.

Whatever it is—start there. That’s enough.

And if you ever want support, guidance, or just to be in a space where this kind of listening is the norm- I’m here for you.

I’m walking this path too. Always.

And I’m so glad you’re here.
