Cognitive research shows that our baseline perception is shaped by what we habitually measure. Most people unconsciously measure what they lack. This practice interrupts that pattern by deliberately auditing what is present.

THE PRACTICE

Before getting out of bed tomorrow, identify three things that are already working in your life — not things you're grateful for in a vague sense, but things that are concretely functioning. Your body woke up. You have shelter. Someone in your life cares about you. Write them in your journal or notes on your phone. No elaboration needed. Just the inventory.
